China News Service, Haikou, January 8 (Zhang Qianyi, Chen Nan) On January 8, the Spring Festival is approaching. The century-old Haikou arcade street is full of tourists. The unique Nanyang style of the building complex attracts tourists from all over the world to come and experience the different New Year atmosphere of the overseas Chinese hometown.

Haikou Qilou Old Street is one of the first "famous Chinese historical and cultural streets", and its history can be traced back to the Southern Song Dynasty. In the 1920s and 1930s, Hainanese who traveled to the South China Sea returned to their hometowns and built arcade buildings that integrate the cultural styles of Chinese, Western and Southern Asia in Deshengsha Road, Zhongshan Road, Boai Road and other blocks.

Walking into the old street, there are a wide range of New Year decorations such as red lanterns, golden blessing characters, and auspicious Spring Festival couplets, decorating the entire street with joy.

The reporter saw that the New Year’s goods festival was being held on the old street, and many stalls were added on both sides of the street, with a variety of products, including local traditional snacks such as coconut cakes, chicken shit vines, Hainan shrimp cakes, and intangible cultural heritage handmade products such as bamboo rattan wovens, attracting many people to come and buy.

"The old arcade street is full of fireworks, and tourists can find different New Year atmospheres of "Going to Southeast Asia" here." Yang Yuping, head of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Bamboo and Rattan Art Museum of Tenghou, said that the combination of Hainan's local characteristic culture and the South Asian style of the arcade can allow more citizens and tourists to feel the collision and integration of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign cultures.

The stall selling Hainan peppers has gathered many customers. The stall owner Xu Haiyan said that Hainan pepper is very popular and many tourists from other places come to buy it. "The Spring Festival is coming soon, and many customers hope to bring some authentic Hainan pepper home to add an authentic island flavor to the New Year's Eve dinner."

Although the old street is old, it is also very fashionable. Creative food, original handmade works, internet celebrity tea drinks, and trendy cultural and creative products are all available. Many small vendors with literary style attract tourists from all over the world. A souvenir shop at the entrance of Shuixiang is crowded with exquisitely packaged partridge tea and cross-border combinations of various tropical fruits that attract many young people.

On Boai South Road, some arcades are under renovation. The reliefs, exterior walls and blinds full of Nanyang style are unique in combination of colors and patterns, attracting many tourists to stop and take photos. "Compared with the retro feel of the previous arcade, the renovated arcade gives people a bright feeling." said Mo Xiumei, a tourist from Lingao, Hainan.

It is understood that during the Spring Festival, Haikou Archway Old Street will also carry out various entertainment performances, theme parades and other activities to enrich the tourism industry.
