CCTV News: The State Council Information Office held a press conference on January 9 to introduce the relevant situation in the past five years of the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle.

From the total economic output, five years ago, the regional GDP of the Twin Cities Economic Circle was less than 6.3 trillion yuan, and it is expected to grow to about 8.6 trillion yuan in 2024, reaching two trillion yuan levels in five years, and its share in the country increased from about 6.3% to more than 6.5%.
From the perspective of the industrial system, the two places have jointly built four trillion-level industrial clusters such as electronic information and equipment manufacturing, and the output value of the automobile industry and electronic information accounts for more than one-tenth of the country.

In terms of innovation layout, the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Comprehensive Science Center has been fully launched, the Sichuan-Chongqing Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Plan has been implemented in depth, 12 high-tech zones have established a strategic alliance of collaborative innovation, and the two provinces and cities have shared more than 14,000 large-scale scientific research instruments and equipment.

In the past five years, new breakthroughs have been made in the construction of a new highland for reform and opening up in the Twin Cities Economic Circle. Reforms in key areas continue to deepen, and the first provincial-level new district, Sichuan-Chongqing Gaozhu New District, was established and put into operation. From 2021 to November 2024, the China-Europe Express (Chengdu and Chongqing) had a total of 16,900 trains, accounting for 25.2% of the total number of trains in the country.

In the past five years, new progress has been made in the construction of high-quality living and livable places in the Twin Cities Economic Circle. The annual average water quality of the Sichuan-Chongqing section of the main stream of the Yangtze River has reached Class II. The "Sichuan-Chongqing General Service" covers 355 government service matters, and the results of 161 medical construction inspections in public hospitals have achieved mutual recognition.
Chen Yajun, deputy secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that after five years of construction, the innovation momentum of the Twin Cities Economic Circle has become stronger, regional development has become more coordinated, green background is more persistent, open development is more effective, people's livelihood sharing is more accessible, and development level and comprehensive strength continue to improve.
