Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun presided over the regular press conference held today (February 17).

Regarding the U.S. State Department’s list of facts to amend the U.S.-Taiwan relations, Guo Jiakun said that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. The government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legal government representing the whole of China. This is a general consensus of the international community and a recognized basic norm of international relations. It is also a solemn promise made by the U.S. side in the three joint communiqués of China and the United States. History cannot be tampered with, and facts cannot be denied.
The US State Department amended the list of facts in US-Taiwan relations, and its position on issues related to Taiwan is seriously regressed, seriously violated the one-China principle and the three joint announcements of China-US, seriously violated international law and the basic norms of international relations, and sent serious wrong signals to the separatist forces of "Taiwan independence". This is another example of the US's stubborn adherence to the wrong policy of "using Taiwan to control China". We urge the US to correct its mistakes immediately, effectively abide by the one-China principle and the three joint communiqués of China-US, and handle the Taiwan issue very carefully, stop "using Taiwan to control China", stop escalating substantive relations between the United States and Taiwan, stop helping Taiwan to expand international space, stop supporting "Taiwan independence", and avoid further serious damage to Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
