CCTV News: Bachu County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang is located on the western edge of the Taklamakan Desert. Recently, the local government seized the favorable opportunity before spring plowing and started the 2025 desertified land governance work.

In the past two days, at the sand control point in Yingwustang Township, Bachu County, more than 500 villagers laid the reed sections made in advance on the sand and soil, and then used a shovel to pierce the reed sections from the middle into the sand and compact them. In this way, sand barriers laid with reeds can fix the sand and soil on the surface during the upcoming spring sandstorm period, reducing the impact of wind and sand on cities and villages.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of sand prevention and control work, reed processing plants in many local townships have started to prepare since November 2024 to meet the needs of sand fixing this spring.

It is understood that the governance of 1.105 million mu of desertified land in Bachu County this year will continue until November. After the project is completed, the results of ecological governance of Takramakan Desert will be consolidated.
