Beijing: Pork wholesale prices fell after the Spring Festival
In the pork trading hall of Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, merchant Pang Wu told reporters that after the Spring Festival, the pork market purchase and sales were light and sales volume decreased significantly.

It is understood that after the Spring Festival, residents mainly digested pork reserved before the New Year, and the demand for it dropped significantly. After the Spring Festival, the average daily market volume of white pigs in Xinfadi market was around 1,000, which was half the price compared with before the Spring Festival, and the wholesale price also turned from rising to falling.

Data shows that in January this year, the average wholesale price of white-striped pigs in Xinfadi market in Beijing was 19.35 yuan per kilogram, up 3.81% month-on-month and 14.7% year-on-year. On February 8, the wholesale price of white-striped pigs in Xinfadi market was 18.5 yuan per kilogram, down about 13% from before the Spring Festival.
Shandong: Egg prices fell after the holiday, and laying hen breeding remained profitable
In addition to pork, in January this year, the national egg price fluctuated slightly and fell slightly month-on-month. According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the national egg wholesale price in January was 10.02 yuan per kilogram, a month-on-month decrease of 1.67%. After the Spring Festival, the egg price showed an accelerated decline.

In this laying hen farm in Pingdu City, Shandong Province, Wang Jinyu, the person in charge, told reporters that since January this year, egg prices have fluctuated significantly, and stocks have been concentrated before the Spring Festival, and egg prices have run at a high level. Subsequently, the market has become saturated and egg prices have dropped.
Wang Jinyu said that from last year to the present, laying hen farming has remained in the profit range. In January this year, the price of eggs reached a high of about 5 yuan per catty, and the profit per catty of eggs could be 1.5 yuan, reaching a historically high level. He also increased his investment and launched automated breeding equipment such as intelligent inspection robots and fully automatic selection, reducing labor costs by about half.
According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the average profit per catty of eggs in the country in laying hen farming exceeded 0.3 yuan in 2024. In January this year, the profit per catty of eggs in the country in laying hen farming reached 0.7 yuan, and the scale of laying hen farming continued to expand.

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs showed that in the first week of February this year, the national average wholesale price of eggs fell by 2.4% month-on-month and 2.5% year-on-year.
