Ministry of Foreign Affairs: I deeply regret that Pakistan will not renew the Memorandum of Understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative

On February 7, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked, according to reports, Panamanian President Mulino announced at a press conference that the memorandum of understanding on jointly building the "Belt and Road" signed with China was terminated. Do you think it is the pressure from the United States that has affected Panama's decision? Lin Jian said that China firmly opposes the United States' behavior of smearing and undermining cooperation in jointly building the "Belt and Road" through pressure and coercion, and deeply regrets that Pakistan will not renew its memorandum of understanding.
The Belt and Road Initiative is an economic cooperation initiative. More than 150 countries, including more than 20 Latin American countries, actively participated in the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, and the results have benefited people from all countries, including Panama. In recent years, China and Pakistan have achieved fruitful results in cooperation under the framework of jointly building the "Belt and Road" and have continuously benefited the people of both countries. We hope that Pakistan will eliminate external interference and make correct decisions based on the overall situation of bilateral relations and the long-term interests of the two peoples.
