The reporter learned from the National Railway Kunming Bureau that in the first eight months of this year, the China-Laos Railway operated a total of 972 international passenger trains, sending a total of 244,000 cross-border passengers, an increase of more than 50% compared with the same period in 2025.
Since the launch of the China-Laos Railway international passenger train on April 13, 2023, Kunming and Vientiane, Laos have been connected on the same day, and cross-border travel "from morning to night" has become the norm.Currently, four international passenger trains run between Kunming south and Vientiane every day, with the fastest arrival time being 9 hours and 36 minutes.The number of cross-border passenger seats has increased from 250 at the initial opening to 420, and the number of entry and exit passengers has increased from 300 at the initial stage to a maximum of 1,640 passengers per day.As of September 7, the China-Laos Railway has operated a total of 3,789 cross-border passenger trains, carrying 926,000 cross-border passengers from more than 120 countries and regions.
Faced with the continuously rising cross-border passenger flow, the Kunming Bureau of China Railway continues to optimize cross-border transportation service guarantees.Provide trilingual services in Chinese, Lao and English for passengers at Xishuangbanna, Pu'er and other stations and on international passenger trains, arrange passenger transport staff in key areas to strengthen guidance services; set up special windows for key passengers, equipped with wheelchairs, commonly used medicines and other items to provide assistance to passengers.
During the summer travel season this year, the Mohan Railway Port inspected more than 57,000 inbound and outbound passengers from 72 countries and regions around the world, a year-on-year increase of over 51%. The peak number of passengers passing through customs in a single day exceeded 1,100.Cross-border tourism, study tours, and business travel continue to heat up, and consumption in scenic spots, hotels, restaurants and other industries along the route has increased by more than 35%. The China-Laos Railway is continuing to empower regional cultural exchanges and economic and trade cooperation with efficient and convenient cross-border transportation services.
