On October 31, local time, the handover ceremony for the second batch of humanitarian relief supplies provided by the Chinese government to Venezuela was held in Port Cabello.
It is reported that the total weight of this batch of aid materials is approximately 5,000 tons, including 1,800 sets of prefabricated houses, 87 heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, etc. The heavy machinery and equipment in the supplies will be used for post-earthquake cleanup, which can handle about 12,000 tons more rubble every day. After the cleanup work is completed, the relevant machinery will also be used for river management, drainage and flood prevention and disaster reduction.
Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez attended the ceremony via television and expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese government and people. She said that the Venezuelan government and people were deeply moved by the arrival of this batch of supplies, which will greatly support post-disaster reconstruction and provide help to people who lost their homes in the earthquake and resettlement camps.
On June 24, two strong earthquakes occurred in Venezuela, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 respectively, less than 1 minute apart, causing heavy casualties and property losses. (Headquarters reporter Wang Yue)
