Today (October 4), the reporter learned from CNOOC that the main body of the new central platform for the Dongfang 1-1 gas field, my country’s first offshore carbon injection and gas enhancement technology demonstration and application project, has been completed and has entered the commissioning stage.After the project is put into operation, it can store more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide in the seabed strata every year, which is of great significance for promoting large-scale and deep carbon reduction in my country's marine energy industry.

The carbon injection and gas enhancement center platform of the Dongfang 1-1 gas field weighs nearly 17,000 tons, is more than 28 stories high, and has a total deck area of more than 10,000 square meters, which is equivalent to the size of nearly 22 standard basketball courts.The platform can "turn waste into treasure" the carbon dioxide associated with mining, capture and purify it and then pressurize it back into the formation, which can not only increase the recovery rate of difficult-to-produce natural gas, but also achieve permanent carbon dioxide storage.

Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field is my country’s first self-operated offshore gas field and a representative offshore carbon-rich gas field. Since it was completed and put into operation in 2003, its cumulative gas production has exceeded 50 billion cubic meters.As gas field development enters the middle and late stages, the amount of natural gas produced is decreasing and carbon is increasing. Therefore, carbon injection and gas increasing technology has the application conditions to move from theory to practice.

According to the design, the Dongfang 1-1 gas field carbon dioxide capture, storage and utilization project will realize the large-scale application of carbon injection and gas enhancement technology at sea for the first time.After the project is fully put into operation, it can inject up to one million tons of carbon dioxide into the formation every year, which will help my country build a highland of offshore carbon sequestration industry and promote the wider utilization of carbon dioxide resources in the industrial field.
