With multiple visa-free policies, Hainan has become a destination and transit point for business travelers from many places around the world. The reporter learned from the Haikou Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station that since the Hainan Free Trade Port was closed and put into operation, the number of visa-free entry foreign tourists has increased by 54% year-on-year.

On the morning of March 27, flights from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Hong Kong, China landed at Haikou Meilan International Airport. In the entry inspection hall, the police at the entry and exit border inspection station carry out identification verification, information verification, stamp release, etc. Passengers can clear customs in about one minute. After the island-wide customs closure, the Hainan Free Trade Port provides multiple conveniences such as bilateral mutual exemption, unilateral visa exemption, and 240-hour transit visa exemption. Currently, there are 86 visa-free countries entering Hainan, and the reasons for entry have expanded from tourism to visiting relatives, business, medical and other diverse needs. At the same time, Hainan is accelerating the development of a dense air network, with routes covering core areas such as Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

According to statistics, since the customs closure was launched on December 18, 2025, the Haikou Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station has inspected and released more than 975,000 entry-exit personnel and more than 7,700 transportation vehicles (vessels), a year-on-year increase of 36.8% and 26.7% respectively. Among them, 518,000 foreigners entered and exited the country, a year-on-year increase of 44.5%; 223,000 foreign tourists entered and exited visa-free, a year-on-year increase of 54%.
